I decided on psychiatry due to family members benefiting from psychiatric care over the years. Unfortunately, I also saw what happens when a loved one is not accepting of care. I lost my grandmother due to suicide. She had seen some mental health care professionals for care but was not forthcoming with her symptoms and ended up taking her own life. I hope that I will be able to help my patients on the road to health and for their families to never know how suicide can affect a family.
