I decided on psychiatry due to family members benefiting from psychiatric care over the years. Unfortunately, I also saw what happens when a loved one is not accepting of care. I lost my grandmother due to suicide. She had seen some mental health care professionals for care but was not forthcoming with her symptoms and ended up taking her own life. I hope that I will be able to help my patients on the road to health and for their families to never know how suicide can affect a family.

Steven Meek

Steven Meek, M.D.

Board-Certified Psychiatrist

The first element of my philosophy of care is a patient centered application, maintaining a partnership with practitioners, patients, and their families to align decisions with patients’ wants, needs, and view-points. I believe people need to actively participate in their own medical treatment in close cooperation with the health professionals.

The second element is the biopsychosocial model.  This is a full view that attributes disease process to the features of the biological, (genetic, biochemical,) psychological, (thoughts, personality) and social, (such as familial and socioeconomic.)
