Unless otherwise indicated, visitation will occur in the cafeteria where we have refreshments available.

Visitors are expected to:

  • Show proof of identification and provide a patient’s name and patient identification number
  • Refrain from bringing in unacceptable items
  • Refrain from entering the facility while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Respect the confidentiality of all patients

Any items not on our approved items list can be secured in a tote or sent home with family/friends. We would prefer that any items of personal or monetary value (greater than $50) be left in the care of family and friends and not brought in to the unit. If they are brought in, we would like to keep those valuable belongings in your tote, where they will be safe and secure. Prairie St. John’s does not assume any responsibility for items that are brought to the unit.

Any medications that are brought in will be delivered to the nursing staff for inspection and identification, and/or stored in our pharmacy. These medications will be returned to the patient on discharge if your physician has written a prescription for them.

We do provide items that may be considered necessities such as hair dryers, electric razors, curling irons; and hygiene supplies such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, mouthwash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, towels, and washcloths.

Gifts and Belongings

One of the best ways to show encouragement for your family and friends is with a hand-written card explaining how important they are to you.

Gifts that are not appropriate will be placed in a secure container until discharge (please see the list of approved items).

No wrapped gifts will be accepted.

We request that these items as well as additional belongings, such as clothing, be brought in only during Visitation hours as indicated above. Please consult our approved belongings list to see what items are accepted at our facility.
