Social Work and Therapy Internship Program

Prairie St. John’s offers internships to help promote mental health and addiction training in our community. We believe in the provision of internships to allow students the opportunity to be fully immersed in the healthcare environment.

We offer unpaid undergraduate internships in Social Work which provides experience in case management and discharge planning in the areas of inpatient and partial hospitalization programs as well as intensive outpatient programming. These mental health internships are unpaid.

At the graduate level, we offer unpaid internships in Clinical Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Addiction Counseling, and Psychology. The internships occur primarily during enrollment in a nationally accredited program of study and offer experience with assessment, group therapy, the multi-disciplinary treatment team process, case management, and discharge planning.

Application Process

The number of internships offered is limited. To be considered, submit an application letter to [email protected]. Please include your contact information; educational background; average grades; anticipated graduation date; applicable work experience, if any; and a summary of why you are interested in working with people who have mental illnesses and addictions.

Nursing Student Internship Program

Prairie St. John’s Nursing Student Internship Program is designed to give nursing students work experience in psychiatric nursing. Nursing students who are within 12 months of graduation are paired with a clinical mentor. The nursing student intern will observe and may assist the clinical mentor with completing their work during the course of a normal shift. The length of the internship varies between 4 – 10 weeks depending on the student’s class schedule and mentor availability.

Application Process

Students who apply must be enrolled in a U.S. accredited nursing school with a strong interest in a career in psychiatric nursing. Preference will be given to current or former employees in good standing and students with an average grade of an A or B. Uniforms

Nursing Student Interns will be provided with 2 sets of uniform scrubs.

Salary and benefits

RN Student Interns will be paid $15.00 per hour. LPN Student Interns will be paid $12 per hour. Both will be scheduled 24 – 32 hours per week. Student interns are not eligible for any benefits.

Employment after Graduation

Nursing Student Interns who successfully complete the internship and accept an offer of employment after becoming licensed are eligible to receive a Referral Bonus.
